Cherish
the Dream

Set Yourself up for Success

Treat it
like a Business

No one has ever said to me, I used to want to write a book, but I don't anymore. Once the dream of writing your book sets in, it never goes away. It's typical to keep putting it off, usually because you don't know where to start or how to tackle such an enormous task. With AI now forcing itself on us, it's even harder to know how to proceed.

First, trust your instincts,  not a heartless machine.

Secondly, writing a book is not an enormous task; it's a series of manageable tasks broken down into weekly goals laid out according to a timeline and plan intended to guide you with clarity so you never feel overwhelmed or unorganized.

Writing a book is an achievable and extremely rewarding dream; it's also a lot of fun if you approach it right.

If you've started drafting content without first executing the steps below, you're putting the cart before the horse and making your life much harder than it needs to be.

Before you start writing, a few things need to happen:

Setting Objectives: What are you writing and why are you writing it? Identify all the reasons for doing this: is it to leave a legacy? to make money? to educate? to correct the record? to expose a wrong? something else?

Identifying your audience: Who is it for, really?

Project Planning: Setting out a comprehensive work plan for achieving all the elements of writing a book in a cohesive, productive manner, with realistic milestones.

Equipping: Preparing project-planning software and choosing the right book-writing software, or making arrangements for a service provider to build and format your manuscript.

Structuring: Setting out the framework for the book: creative direction, content overview, story design, text, graphs, images, diary entries, etc. You don't have to gather those things yet; you just have to plan a space for them.

Outlining: Creating an outline of parts, chapters, and sub-chapters, summarizing the planned content for each, and planning the positioning of the elements we listed above.

If you've done all that, and you still haven't written a word, congratulations!

That discipline and preparation will ensure your success.

I'm excited for you!

(and now we can get writing)
